In 2011, Shinya marked a century of life with a joyful visit from his city mayor, complete with a blooming bouquet and celebratory gift money. Despite reaching 100, his vitality remained. He could still be seen expertly navigating his tractor across the farm, and until the age of 106, his hands continued to sow rice seeds in the fields. When asked about his remarkable longevity, Shinya humbly shared his wisdom: a life free of worry, a palate that embraced all flavors, regular short walks to keep the blood flowing, and a resolute avoidance of bedridden days. Shinya’s health and spirit earned him further recognition. In 2018 and 2019, the prefectural governor himself visited to celebrate him as Kagoshima Prefecture’s oldest living man on Respect for the Aged Day. On both occasions, he received heartfelt letters and gifts, and reports consistently described him as radiating good health.

LongeviQuest congratulates Tetsuo Shinya’s family on her posthumous recognition.
