LongeviQuest is pleased to report that the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO) has validated the age of Margaret Ives at 111. She was born in Millom, Cumbria, England, on 28 January 1889. She was a wife and a mother to 5 children.

Ives and her husband lived in Norquay, Saskatchewan for many years before relocating to Winnipeg in 1946. In her later years, Ives enjoyed gardening and quilting for her family. She moved into a Winnipeg nursing home aged 96, where she was affectionately known as “Granny.”

Ives died in her sleep in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada on 27 March 2000 at the age of 111 years, 59 days, as Canada’s fourth-oldest person after Zelda McCagueIsabel Dryden, and Fanny Martland. Upon her death, Ives was the oldest Manitoba resident. It is currently unclear when she gained this title, but after her death, 110-year-old Elizabeth Middler became the oldest living person in the province. She was survived by four of her children, as well as 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

LongeviQuest congratulates Margaret Ives’s family on her posthumous recognition.
