It is with a heavy heart that LongeviQuest announces the passing of Noemia Vieira de Souza, who held the title of the oldest documented living individual in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro. Mrs. Vieira de Souza peacefully departed from this world on August 26, 2023, at the age of 111.

Noemia Vieira de Souza was born on April 6, 1912, in Duas Barras, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She married Manoel Luiz de Souza, and the couple had 8 children.  This Rio de Janeiro resident had 21 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

In June 2023, with the invaluable assistance of her granddaughter Iara, LongeviQuest successfully verified her birthdate, thereby bestowing official recognition upon her as one of Brazil’s oldest living individuals. With a final age of 111 years and 142 days, she held the distinction of being the oldest known Rio de Janeiro resident.

LongeviQuest sends our deepest condolences to the bereaved family and friends of Mrs. Vieira de Souza. May she rest in peace.
