Servando Palacin Bernal, a resident of Madrid, Spain, passed away on 29 June, at the age of 110 years, 54 days. His passing was first reported by the blog Reinoso de Cerrato.

Servando Palacin Bernal was born in Reinoso de Cerrato, Castile and León, on 6 May 1915. He was born in the countryside into a very poor family, unable to pursue an education and forced to work from a very young age to support himself. In his youth, he joined the military, but the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War sent him to the front lines. He was wounded in combat in Los Barrios de Luna, when a bullet pierced his arm.

At some point, he married Juana, and together they had two children, including Javier. Juana passed away in 2008 after several years of living with dementia. He remained by her side until the very end.

At the time of his passing, he was the nation’s second-oldest living man, after Luis Carrasco-Muñoz y Pérez de la Isla.
