LongeviQuest is pleased to announce the age validation of Asayo Satō of Japan at age 112. She was born in Imari, Saga Prefecture, Japan on 22 September 1911. Satō’s life saw her run her own business in Osaka before marriage. During World War II, she returned to Imari with her family, where she opened a yarn shop. Though she was unable to pursue her hobbies during the war and its aftermath, she rediscovered a passion for travel and folk dancing in her later years.

Satō remained active until her late 90s, participating in gateball and even winning an award at a local tournament. Despite reaching the age of 100, she continued to be organized, keeping a diary and using an abacus. Even in her later years, living at home with daycare assistance, she enjoyed rereading her diary, knitting, and sewing. At 110, reading family letters became her favorite pastime, and she remarkably still had good eyesight, reading newspapers without needing glasses.
In September 2023, she was reported as the oldest living person in Saga Prefecture. Being the oldest person in the city, when a city official asked her the secret to her long life, she responded, “Don’t dwell on things. Stay curious about everything.”
