Ella “Nellie” Marsh (née Noonan) was an American supercentenarian whose age has been validated by LongeviQuest.
Marsh was born in Bay City, Michigan, USA, on 22 December 1905, to James and Anna Noonan. She grew up in a large family with six sisters and one brother. After graduating from Eastern High School, she began working as a telephone operator for the Bell Telephone Company in 1923, a career she dedicated herself to for over 43 years until her retirement in 1967.
On 15 August 1930, she married Clyde Marsh, who worked as a machine operator at various factories in Bay City and helped run his family’s floral businesses, Marsh Floral Co. and Hazel’s Flowers. Though the couple did not have children, they were deeply involved in the lives of their nieces, nephews, and their families. Clyde passed away on 11 October 1965, after which she continued living at their cottage on Saginaw Bay.
A devoted member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Linwood, Marsh lived independently until 2006, when at the age of 101, she moved into the Bay County Medical Care Facility.
Marsh passed away in Bay City, Michigan, USA, on 24 July 2016, at the age of 110 years, 215 days.
At the time of her passing, she was the oldest (known) living person in the U.S. state of Michigan.
