Nair Dias, a resident of Campanha, Minas Gerais, Brazil, celebrated her 110th birthday on November 17. Her birthday was first reported by the Facebook page Blog da Cristina.
Dias was born in Campanha on 17 November 1914. She was employed at the Post Office.
Dias has been voting since the first election in which Brazilian women gained the right to vote in 1932 and continued to do so even in her centenarian years. At the age of 99, she commented: “I will vote until I die. If I am in a wheelchair, I will. I love my country, I love my city.” She believed there were no excuses for not voting. She often said that voting is everyone’s civic duty, as well as a moral and religious obligation. According to her niece, even in her later years, she maintained a keen interest in politics. She kept herself informed through magazines, newspapers, the internet, and even had her own Facebook account.
LongeviQuest extends warm congratulations to Nair Dias on her 110th birthday.
