Nair Fonseca Dias was born in Brazil on 17 November 1914. She was employed at the Post Office.
Dias has been voting since the first election in which Brazilian women gained the right to vote in 1932 and continued to do so even in her centenarian years. At the age of 99, she commented: “I will vote until I die. If I am in a wheelchair, I will. I love my country, I love my city.” She believed there were no excuses for not voting. She often said that voting is everyone’s civic duty, as well as a moral and religious obligation. According to her niece, even in her later years, she maintained a keen interest in politics. She kept herself informed through magazines, newspapers, the internet, and even had her own Facebook account.
On 20 January 2021, at the age of 106, she received the COVID-19 vaccine, becoming the first resident of Campanha to get vaccinated.
Her age was initially verified by Filipe Lopes, and listed as a pending validation by the LAS as of 21 November 2022. The validation process was later completed by Gabriel Ainsworth and Iara Souza, and her age was validated by LongeviQuest on 27 September 2024.
