Erdman Blank, a resident of Tartu, Estonia, and the nation’s oldest man, passed away on 29 June, at the age of 107 years, 118 days. His passing was first reported by Tartu Postimees.
Blank was born in the village of Reola, in Tartu County, Estonia, on 3 March 1918, to mother Julie Blank (1890–1969). He had at least three sisters. He was born less than two weeks following the Estonian Declaration of Independence. At some point, he married Endla Toover (1928–2013), and the couple had six children. They were married for 65 years until her passing.
At the time of his passing, his family consisted of five generations. He had 11 grandchildren, and an unspecified number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
On 9 March 2022, following the passing of 106-year-old Hugo-Eduard Vaino, he became the oldest known living man in Estonia.
