Naomi Whitehead, a resident of Greenville, Pennsylvania, became the oldest living person in the United States on October 22nd, following the passing of 115-year-old Elizabeth Francis of Texas. As of today, Mrs. Whitehead is 114 years, 27 days old.
Naomi Whitehead was born Naomi Washington on a farm in Georgia, on 26 September 1910. She began helping her family at an early age by picking cotton and tobacco. The farm also had horses, and even at the age of 113, she remembered being afraid of getting kicked by them. In 1930, she married Sylvester Whitehead. The couple had 3 sons: Parrish L. (1933-2011), Elbert and Sylvester. She was widowed in the 1980s.
On 28 September 2024, her family and friends gathered to celebrate her 114th birthday, during which State Representative Parke Wentling presented her with a special citation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in honor of the occasion.
At the moment, she is the seventh-oldest living person, and the oldest living person in North America.
The LongeviQuest team offers our warmest congratulations to Mrs. Whitehead on achieving her new title. Her astonishing life story and exceptional longevity continue to inspire individuals across the globe.
