The oldest (known) living resident of the U.S. state of New Hampshire, Ms. Marita Carlton Gould, passed away on May 21st, aged 110 years, 124 days. Her passing was confirmed by the Hobbs Funeral Home.

Gould was born in Portland, Maine, USA, on 18 January 1914, to parents James Gould and Jennie Carlton. She had a sister, Barbara Pooler. She received her primary education from the South Portland School Department. She furthered her music education at the Sherwood Music School in Chicago.

Gould never married nor had children. She taught piano and organ to many local students for over 79 years. She was an active member of the National Federation of Music Clubs and served as the Maine chairman. She played the organ at Peoples United Methodist Church, where she was also the director of the bell choir for many years.

On 4 January 2024, following the passing of 111-year-old Theo Ricker, she became the oldest (known) living person in the U.S. state of New Hampshire.
