Mildred Kern was a validated American supercentenarian who died in 2022 at the age of 110.

Mildred Elizabeth Kern was born on December 15, 1911, in Athens, Alabama. She attended a one-room schoolhouse, commuting daily with her teacher by horse and buggy. After her father’s death, she moved with her mother to Fremont, Ohio. There, she met her husband, and they married and relocated to Bakersfield, California. The couple enjoyed over 50 years together.

Kern worked various jobs, including at a cigar stand and a restaurant during World War II, eventually retiring after 20 years at Smith’s Bakery. Kern had a passion for gardening and was well-known in her neighborhood for her flowers. Even after turning 110, she lived independently, enjoying music from her sunroom window. She remained at home until two weeks before her death due to renal failure.
