Sakae Takeya was born in Japan on 14 March 1912.
Sakae Takeya passed away in Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan, on 16 April 2022, at the age of 110 years, 33 days.
In September 2018, he was reported as the third-oldest living man in Fukushima Prefecture.
In September 2020, he was reported as the second-oldest living man in the prefecture, behind Sadakichi Kanno.
On 14 December 2020, following the passing of 109-year-old Kanno, he became the oldest living man in the prefecture.
On 1 October 2021, following the passing of 110-year-old Masa Hoshi, he became the oldest living person in the prefecture.
In March 2022, he celebrated his 110th birthday, becoming the first man in Fukushima Prefecture to become a supercentenarian.
At the time of his passing, he was the fourth-oldest living man in Japan, behind Mikizō Ueda, Shigeru Nakamura, and Gisaburō Sonobe.
