Emi Miura was born in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, on 24 April 1911. In 1932, she graduated from the music department of Miyagi Girls’ School, which is now known as Miyagi Gakuin Women’s University Musicians. Both before and after World War II, she dedicated herself to teaching music at Hirosaki Girls’ School, which has since become Hirosaki Gakuin University, as well as various high schools in Hirosaki City.

Her passion for choral music ignited during her schoolgirl days, and even after retiring from her teaching career, she continued to pursue this passion. At some point she joined a choir, participating in concerts held once every five years. Additionally, she hosted piano lessons for children at her home, nurturing their musical talents. Her dedication to music and education persisted well into her 90s, as she remained active by attending English conversation classes. At some point, she got married and had three children.

By the time she was 110 years old, she was living in a nursing home in Sendai City and was able to eat without assistance. On September 17, 2021, Sendai City commemorated her longevity by presenting her with a memento. Her response was, “Am I really 110 years old already?” As of September 2023, she had three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
