Yuki Hasegawa [Japanese: 長谷川ゆき] was a Japanese supercentenarian who was the oldest living person in Nagano Prefecture at the time of her death.

BIOGRAPHY

Yuki Hasegawa (長谷川ゆき) was born in Ueda City, Nagano Prefecture, Japan, on February 28, 1896.
In 1918, she married a man who managed an abaca (Manila hemp) plantation on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines, and subsequently moved there. After the end of World War II, she returned with her husband to Ueda City, where they ran a farm together.

She raised eight children and was blessed with more than 20 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Hasegawa had enjoyed reading literature since her youth and was known for her calm and steady nature. She ate a wide variety of foods without being picky, which was said to be one of her secrets to longevity.

She lost her husband around the age of 70 and moved into a nursing home at around 103. She was reportedly able to walk on her own until around the age of 105.

Following the death of Sue Yamada of Matsukawa Village on March 5, 2006, Hasegawa became the oldest living person in Nagano Prefecture.
She passed away from pneumonia on September 5, 2006, at the age of 110 years and 189 days.

RECOGNITION

Her age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group on 23 September 2007 and later recognized by LongeviQuest.
