BIOGRAPHY

Kuni Numata was born in Japan on 1 February 1896. At some point, she moved into a nursing home for the elderly.

In September 2003, at the age of 107, she was visited by the mayor and other city officials at her nursing home, where she received a congratulatory vest in celebration of Respect for the Aged Day. At that time, she was the oldest living person in Neyagawa City. Despite being unsteady on her feet and having difficulty hearing, she was reported to be in good health. Even at the age of 107, Numata continued to make an effort to style her hair in a fashionable manner.

Kuni Numata passed away in Neyagawa City, Osaka Prefecture, Japan, on 16 November 2007, at the age of 111 years, 288 days.

RECOGNITION

In December 2005, following the death of 112-year-old Naka Morii of Sakai, she became the oldest living person in Osaka Prefecture.

At the time of her death, she was the second-oldest person ever to have lived in the prefecture, second only to Morii.

Upon her passing, she was succeeded as the prefecture’s oldest living person by Shige Hirooka.
