BIOGRAPHY

Antoinette Flageul was born in Aulnay-sur-Iton, Eure, Normandy, France on 14 September 1912. Orphaned at 12, she was raised in the La Providence orphanage in Blois, where she learned essential skills like sewing and cooking. At 21, she left the orphanage, marrying carpenter Henri Flageul in 1934. Together, they had five children. After her husband’s death in 1956, Flageul raised her children alone while working as a cleaner, notably at the Rhône-Poulenc pharmaceutical group.

Flageul lived in various locations throughout her life, including the Paris region, before settling in Loir-et-Cher with her son Michel and his partner. Known for her resilience and strong character, she was also remembered for her kindness and joyfulness. She celebrated many milestones, including her 100th and 110th birthdays surrounded by family, friends, and community. Despite her advanced age, she maintained a sharp mind, a loud voice, and a cheerful disposition. She was also still walking with a cane and enjoying time outdoors.
