On 3 August, Hiroshima Prefecture (Japan) released updated official statistics on its oldest living residents. The announcement reported the deaths of the two most recent titleholders and confirmed the identity of the prefecture’s new oldest resident.
Misao Kobayashi of Hiroshima City, who had held the title of the prefecture’s oldest resident since the passing of Hisayo Nobuyasu in early 2024, died on 19 June at the age of 112 years and 235 days. She was born on 27 October 1913.
Following her death, the title passed to Kaoru Kodera of Fukuyama City, who was born on 25 November 1914. However, she passed away on 3 July at the age of 111 years and 220 days, having held the title for just 14 days.
Hiroshima Prefecture has now confirmed that its new oldest resident is Yukie Hata, also of Fukuyama City. She was born on 3 March 1915.
