Kaoru Kodera (Japanese: 小寺カヲル) was a Japanese supercentenarian whose age has been validated by LongeviQuest.
BIOGRAPHY
Kaoru Kodera (小寺カヲル) was born on 25 November 1914 in Japan.
She began creating chigiri-e (torn-paper collage art) in her 60s and continued pursuing it as a longtime hobby. In May 2007, at the age of 92, she held her first solo exhibition, titled Grandma Kaoru’s Chigiri-e Exhibition. Around 50 works were displayed, including landscapes, flowers, and auspicious motifs such as cranes and turtles.
She reportedly created her chigiri-e primarily using newspaper photographs and washi paper. Her works were also reportedly popular gifts among her friends and were greatly appreciated by those who received them.
She passed away on 3 July 2026 at the age of 111 years and 220 days in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan.
RECOGNITION
Following the death of Misao Kobayashi (112) of Hiroshima on 19 June 2026, Kodera became the oldest living person in Hiroshima Prefecture.
Her age was verified by Fukuyama City and Ryohei Asano, and validated by LongeviQuest on 9 August 2026.
