Macario Barría Cárdena, the oldest living man in Panama, passed away in Las Palmitas, Los Santos Province, at the age of 111. His passing was announced by his relative on 10 December.

Barría Cárdena claimed to have been born in the town of Tonosí, Los Santos Province, on 10 March 1913. He had 10 (or 14) children. By the time he was 108, his family grew to include 72 grandchildren, 90 great-grandchildren, 75 great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-grandchild. His oldest surviving daughter, Gregoria, was 80 as of April 2023.

He may have become the oldest living person in Panama following the passing of 113-year-old Dolores Maria Vazquez de Martinez on 23 October 2024.

His age has not yet been validated. If his claimed age were proven, he would become the oldest documented man ever to have died in Panama and the country’s first officially recognized male supercentenarian. He would also have been the second-oldest living man in the world, only after João Marinho Neto.
