Reid was born in New South Wales, Australia, on 17 December 1910. She married and had a son, Colin Reid. She passed away following a stroke at the Regis Rose Bay care home in Rose Bay, New South Wales, Australia.
On 20 July 2021, following the passing of 111-year-old Dexter Kruger, she became the oldest living Australian-born person in the world, at the age of 110 years, 215 days. She also became the nation’s second-oldest living person, after Ivy Tate.
On 6 December 2021, following the passing of 111-year-old Ivy Tate, she became the oldest living person in Australia, at the age of 110 years, 354 days. Upon her own passing, she was succeeded by Gwen Moore.
The Gerontology Research Group currently lists her age as validated, with a birth date of 16 December 1910. However, research conducted by LongeviQuest confirms that she was actually born a day later, on 17 December.
