Zaragoza, Aragon — The oldest living person in Spain, Piedad Loriente Pérez, celebrated her 113th birthday on September 11th.
Loriente Pérez was born in Agüero, Aragon, Spain, on 11 September 1911. She married railwayman Lorenzo Allué Rubiela and had a daughter, Ángeles Allué Loriente, who was 79 at the time of her mother’s 110th birthday. Loriente Pérez and her husband had to live apart from each other during the Spanish Civil War.
When she was widowed aged 61, Loriente Pérez moved in with her daughter and son-in-law. Aged 99, she moved into a care home in Zaragoza, Aragon. Since she was 103, she has suffered from dementia, but was reported to still be in good health, full of cheer and positivity. As a centenarian, she enjoyed sewing, cooking, and eating.

On 19 August 2024, following the death of 117-year-old Maria Branyas Morera, the world’s oldest person, Loriente Pérez became Spain’s second-oldest resident. On 11 September, her 113th birthday, she became the oldest living resident, following the passing of 114-year-old Silveria Martín Díaz.
