The oldest living man in the world, John Tinniswood, is celebrating his 112th birthday today, at the care home in Southport, England.

Tinniswood was born in Liverpool, Merseyside, England, UK, on 26 August 1912. Due to problems with his eyesight, he was given an administrative role with Royal Army Pay Corps during the Second World War. In addition to accounting and auditing, his work involved logistical tasks such as locating stranded soldiers and organizing food supplies. During his time in the army, he met his wife, Blodwen, at a dance in Liverpool. The couple married in 1942, and their only child, Susan, was born in 1943. The couple were married for 44 years until Blodwen died in 1986.

Prior to his retirement in 1972, Tinniswood worked as an accountant for Shell and BP. He has been a lifelong fan of Liverpool FC.

On 1 June 2024, following the passing of Frenchman Georges Thomas, he assumed the title of the world’s oldest living man whose age has been fully documented and validated. At the time, Tinniswood was 111 years and 280 days old. However, Shi Ping of China, who passed away on June 29th, might have been older than both Thomas and Tinniswood, meaning Tinniswood may have succeeded Shi Ping rather than Thomas.

Our team had the honor of meeting and visiting Mr. Tinniswood in May.

We at LongeviQuest congratulate Mr. Tinniswood on his 112th birthday and celebrate his extraordinary life and the inspiration he brings to us all.
