Monteiasi, Apulia — The oldest living resident of the Italian region of Apulia, and the sixth-oldest in the country, Rita Lotta, died on August 1st, at the age of 111 years, 258 days.

Lotta was born in Monteiasi, Apulia, on 17 November 1912. As a child, she never worked in the fields, preferring to sew instead. She enjoyed working as a seamstress, and embroidered many garments. Lotta never married nor had children, instead assisting her widowed sister in taking care of her nephew. In her later years, Lotta was reported to be of excellent health. She had a fondness for sweets as a supercentenarian.
