Piedad Loriente Pérez, the oldest living person in Spain, passed away in Zaragoza, Aragon, on November 23, at the age of 113 years, 73 days. Her passing was first reported by Diario del Alto Aragón.
Loriente Pérez was born in Agüero, Aragon, Spain, on 11 September 1911. She married railwayman Lorenzo Allué Rubiela and had a daughter, Ángeles Allué Loriente. She and her husband had to live apart from each other during the Spanish Civil War.
When she was widowed aged 61, she moved in with her daughter and son-in-law. Aged 99, she moved into a care home in Zaragoza, Aragon. Since she was 103, she has suffered from dementia, but was reported to still be in good health at 110, full of cheer and positivity. As a centenarian, she enjoyed sewing, cooking, and eating.
On 19 August 2024, following the death of 117-year-old Maria Branyas Morera, the world’s oldest person, Loriente Pérez became Spain’s second-oldest resident after Silveria Martín Díaz, 114.
On 11 September 2024, her 113th birthday, she became the oldest living person in Spain, following Martín Díaz’s passing.
With her passing, the title of the nation’s oldest living resident now belongs to Angelina Torres Vallbona, born in March 1913.
