LongeviQuest is delighted to share that Maria Gauvin, the oldest living person in Brittany, France, has celebrated her 111th birthday. Her birthday was first reported by Le Télégramme.
On 22 August 2024, Gauvin celebrated her 111th birthday in Grand-Fougeray. On the occasion, she commented: “I had six children, 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren!”
Gauvin was born on 22 August 1913 in Sainte-Anne-sur-Vilaine, Ille-et-Vilaine, Brittany, France.
In 1935, she married Pierre Gauvin and the couple had six children together. The two of them worked on a farm in Port-de-Roche. During the Second World War, the military mobilized her husband so she was left alone to tend for their children while also being pregnant. Her husband managed to avoid being captured during the war and safely crossed into free France before returning to the village.
After retiring in 1967, they bought a house in La Théotière, also located in Sainte-Anne-sur-Vilaine, near their eldest daughter Marie Hamon. Her husband died in 1977.
We at LongeviQuest congratulate Mrs. Gauvin on her 111th birthday and celebrate her extraordinary life and the inspiration she brings to us all.
