Lois Wooten, age 110, is now a validated American supercentenarian.
Lois Wooten was born on May 5, 1914, in Floyd, Texas. She was the eldest of two children. She fondly remembers riding in a horse and buggy and driving the family’s Ford Model T at age 12. Her schooling was in a two-story brick building that taught up to the 11th grade. For her final year, she attended high school in Farmersville to earn credits for college.
After high school, Wooten attended beauty school in Dallas but returned home due to homesickness and began working at a pants factory in Greenville, Texas. There, she met and married her husband in 1939. They had one daughter and moved to Oklahoma in 1947. In 1950, they bought a home in Del City, where Wooten worked as a cafeteria manager until her retirement in 1975, after which she pursued painting.
Wooten lived independently for many years, volunteering at church and teaching Sunday school. In 2014, just before her 100th birthday, Del City honored her by declaring May 5th as Lois Wooten Day. She stayed connected with friends and family through texts and emails.
In 2020, she began living with her daughter, Linda. Although macular degeneration has prevented her from painting in recent years, she remains mentally alert and still gets her hair done every week.
