He worked as a banker where matcha tea is being served at his former boss’s residence. This is where he developed a fascination for the tea ceremony. Since then, he embraced the tea ceremony for more than 80 years. It is also reported that matcha tea was a part of his daily routine even after reaching 100 years old.

Shirō is currently residing at Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, where he was reported as the oldest living man in the area.
