Ljubica Violić Martinović

Ljubica ”Ljuba” Katalina Violić Martinović was a Chilean semi-supercentenarian whose age is currently pending by the Latin American Supercentenarians (LAS).

Biography

Violić Martinović was born in Punta Arenas, Magallanes y Antártica Chilena, Chile, on 14 November 1913, to parents Juan Violić Masle (1881–1955) and Marija Martinović Rajević (1891–1915). Both of her parents were born in Croatia (then Austria-Hungary). She had one sister and one brother, as well as several half-siblings from her father’s second marriage. She completed her primary and secondary education studies at the María Auxiliadora School.

In 1935, she was crowned the Spring Queen of the Magallanes Week (Spanish: Reina de la Primavera de la Semana Magallánica), an event organized during that time by the Civic Legion of Magallanes, the cultural branch of the Regionalist Party.

At the age of 24, she married Raúl Barahona in Punta Arenas. The couple had two daughters: Ena and Ximena.

Violić Martinović passed away in Santiago, Chile, on 22 June 2023, at the age of 109 years, 220 days.
