Biography

Gomery was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, on 24 February 1905. She had three brothers, all of whom she outlived. As an infant, she moved with her family to San Francisco, where she survived the 1906 earthquake. At some point, she relocated to Germany before returning to America in her 20s.

In Germany, she married Fred Warias, who passed away in a construction accident, leaving her a widow with a young son, Alfred, just as the Great Depression was beginning. In the 1930s, she entered into a second marriage with Joseph Gomery. The couple had a son, Victor. Her husband passed away in 1963, and during that same decade, her first son succumbed to cancer.

Gomery retired in the late 1960s and relocated to Seattle in the early 1970s, settling at Wesley Terrace in Des Moines. In 1996, she moved to Brooklyn in the North River area and later resided in Aberdeen with her son.

Gomery passed away at Pacific Care Center in Hoquiam, Washington, USA, on 27 December 2015, at the age of 110 years, 306 days. She was survived by her son Victor, three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
