Gianna Manzo

Gianna Manzo-Caravello was an Italian supercentenarian who was the third-oldest person in Sicily upon her death. Her age has not been validated by LongeviQuest (LQ).

Biography

Manzo was born in Ragusa, Sicily, Italy on 23 January 1912. She married Giuseppe “Pino” Caravello, a marshal in the Carabinieri, and later a journalist and writer. The couple had four children. She was widowed in 1973.

In 2007, aged 95, Manzo moved to Casteldaccia, Sicily, to live with her daughter and son-in-law. At the time of her 105th birthday in 2017, she had seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She died on 20 March 2022 at the age of 110 years, 56 days. The two Sicily residents older than her were Giuseppa Comandè and Francesca Fioriglio.

Recognition

Manzo was first recognised for her longevity on her 105th birthday, when she was congratulated by then-mayor of Casteldaccia, Fabio Spatafora. Her 110th birthday was noted by the next mayor, Giovanni Di Giacinto.
