Anna Garrett

Anna Ethelina Garrett (née Byrdsong) was an American supercentenarian. At the time of death, she was the oldest known living person in the U.S. state of Indiana. Her age has been validated by LongeviQuest.

Biography

Garrett was born Anna Byrdsong in Sparta, Georgia, USA, on 26 July 1908. She was one of sixteen children born to parents Ashley Byrdsong and Elsie Stanley. Her father was a sharecropper, and when she was young, she was helping her father in the fields.

In 1922, she moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. In 1931, she married James Garrett (born 1910). The couple had two children: Joyce Irvin (born December 1940) and Saundra Tucker (born February 1945). She was widowed in 1993.

Garrett died in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States, on 27 May 2021 at the age of 112 years, 305 days. She was survived by her sister Gertrina Ellerson (1925–2021), her two daughters, five grandchildren, four greatgrandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
