BIOGRAPHY

Shizue Matsuzaki was born in Japan on 26 December 1902.

In September 2013, at the age of 110, Matsuzaki received a visit at her home from the prefectural governor and was presented with a congratulatory letter and gifts in celebration of Respect for the Aged Day. She reportedly sang for the governor, and witnesses described her as being “so energetic that you wouldn’t believe she was 110.”

Shizue Matsuzaki passed away at a hospital in Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture, Japan, on 16 October 2014, at the age of 111 years, 294 days.

RECOGNITION

On 26 June 2013, following the passing of 110-year-old Masao Kaga of Mitoyo, she became the oldest living person in Kagawa Prefecture.

At the time of her death, she was the third-oldest person ever to have lived in Kagawa Prefecture, after Yasu Nishiyama (1894–2006) and Haru Mori (1894–2006)

Upon her passing, she was succeeded as the prefecture’s oldest living person by Mumeno Shirai.
