Rose Iacovone was born in Villafranca Sicula, Sicily, Italy, on 9 May 1909, to Calogero and Maddalena Bullaro. She was one of seven children and immigrated to America as a young girl, settling with her family in St. Louis, Missouri. When she was nine, the family relocated to Greenwich Village, New York City. It was there she met her husband, Vito “Willy” Iacovone, and together they had a son, Rocco. She worked as a seamstress and was a proud member of the International Ladies’ Garment Workers Union.
Iacovone lived in Greenwich Village until the age of 99, when she moved to a luxury building on 14th Street. There, she formed a new circle of friends and lived for seven years. At the age of 106, she moved in with her son Rocco and her daughter-in-law, Denise.
Rose Iacovone passed away in New York City, on 27 May 2020, at the age of 111 years, 18 days. She was survived by her son, three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
