Pauline Owen was born in White County, Georgia, USA, on 8 February 1906. Her parents were John Franklin “Frank” Barrett (1876–1935) and Mattie Louise Trotter (1887–1920). The family moved to the Hawkinsville area in 1917. She was the third of eight children, all of whom preceded her in death—the last being her sister, Lillie Mae Owens, who passed away in 2000.
In 1920, while fourteen-year-old Pauline was visiting the Barrett family following her mother’s death, a young man happened to see her holding the youngest child in front of the fireplace. Many years later, he would tell his daughter, “That’s the girl I’m going to marry.” In 1928, after securing a job as a city letter carrier with the Hawkinsville Post Office, James Edmon Owen Sr. (1902–1987) fulfilled that promise and married Pauline. In 1935, they bought the house where they would raise their two children, Ed Jr. (1929–1995) and Ann Miller (1931–2021). That home remained Pauline’s until 2005, when she and Ann, along with Ann’s husband Joe, moved to Acworth to be closer to family.
Pauline Owen passed away in Acworth, Georgia, USA, on 22 March 2016, at the age of 110 years, 43 days. At the time of her death, she had three grandsons, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
Her age has not been validated.
