Mitsu Ibuki was born in Nangōri Village (now Kanō-chō, Nagahama City), Shiga Prefecture, Japan, on 16 March 1907. She continued to live in the same city after marriage and had three children.
At the age of 100, she was still able to manage her daily activities, including eating and bathing, without assistance. She reportedly enjoyed watching sumo wrestling on television.
In 2015, at the age of 108, she became the oldest person in Nagahama City. At that time, she was living at home with her youngest son and his wife. She had a hearty appetite and was reported to enjoy fried foods such as tempura and croquettes, as well as meat and fish.
Ibuki passed away on 29 April 2017, at the age of 110 years, 44 days.
Her age was verified by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare (MHLW), as well as Ryohei Asano, and validated by LongeviQuest on 15 August 2025.
