Leventéné Csap, the oldest known living person in Hungary, is celebrating her 109th birthday today in Budapest, according to SZOLJON.

Leventéné Csap was born as Gizella Nemecz in Karcag, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County, Austria-Hungary (now Hungary), on 14 April 1917. She grew up as an only child. Her father was a military judge, and her mother was a teacher. After completing four years of primary school, she continued her education at a public school. She spent the final two of those years in Kaposvár, having been advised to relocate for health reasons due to her frail constitution.

After returning home from Kaposvár, she was unable to resume her studies immediately. For a time, she supported herself through needlework—embroidering and repairing pleated skirts for a small income—while also attending cooking classes. Meanwhile, her father became seriously ill. In 1932, he was hospitalized with syphilis, where he remained under treatment for ten years until his death in 1942. After graduating from a commercial school, she began working at the Karcag city hall as a typist. With the support of the mayor, she later completed a healthcare course in Pest, after which she was admitted to Árpád Hospital.

She married her husband on 13 March 1948. He was a disabled veteran whose previous wife had left him and their children. Together, they had two children, Attila and Árpád, and she also became a stepmother to his two children from his first marriage, Levente and Csongor. Following their divorce in 1961, she moved permanently to Budapest. She retired from the timber industry in 1976.

On 22 January 2026, following the death of 111-year-old Árpádné Juhász, she became the oldest known living person in Hungary.

LongeviQuest extends warm congratulations to Leventéné Csap on her 109th birthday.
