Midori Hisanaga was born on 18 December 1899, in Japan, and spent many years living in Miyanojō Town, Kagoshima Prefecture. In December 1999, she celebrated her 100th birthday and received visits of congratulations from the town mayor, the local social welfare council, and the senior citizens’ club.
On 27 April 2010, Hisanaga received a commemorative gift from Satsuma Town in honor of her longevity. However, shortly afterward, she passed away on 12 May 2010, at the age of 110 years, 145 days, at a hospital in Satsuma Town.
As of her 110th birthday in 2009, she was recognized as the third-oldest living person in Kagoshima Prefecture at the time, following Chikao Beppu and Toshi Horiya. After Beppu’s passing in February 2010, she became the second-oldest.
Her age was verified by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare (MHLW), as well as Ryohei Asano, and validated by LongeviQuest on 28 December 2024.
