Marguerite Redmond was born in Yorkville, New York, USA, on 1 December 1912, to parents John Priestly (1874–1941) and Margaret Reilly (1874–1951). Her father was born in England, and her mother in Scotland. She had four sisters: Irene McPherson, Muade Anderson, Sadie Hinkston (1898–1997), and Mable Biggs (1900–1966). While working at Winship Luggage Company, she met her future husband, John H. Redmond (1913–1968). They married in 1936 and had two daughters, Margaret Hardy and Patricia Redmond, as well as a son, John, who passed away as an infant in 1948.
Redmond spent most of her adult life working as a seamstress and raising her children. In her free time, she had a passion for flower gardening, loved sewing, and was an avid reader. Family time was always a priority for her. She remained remarkably active until the age of 98, when she had her first hip replacement, followed by her second at 100. Around the age of 106, she moved to the MVHS Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Utica. After turning 110, Redmond reflected, saying, “You always think it’s going to be somebody else. I can’t believe it’s me.”
