She passed away from natural causes in Morioka, Iwate Prefecture, on May 9, 2011, at the age of 111 years and 52 days.
At the time of her death, she was the oldest living person in Morioka and the second-oldest in Iwate Prefecture, after Suma Tamagawa.
Her age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group on 12 March 2011 and later recognized by LongeviQuest.
