Kaya Kataoka [Japanese: 片岡かや] was a Japanese supercentenarian.

BIOGRAPHY

Kaya Kataoka (片岡かや) was born in Kami Town (formerly Muraoka Town), Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan, on April 1, 1897.
At the age of 21, she moved to Yabu City upon marriage and engaged in farming. She and her husband had two sons and two daughters.

Until the age of 110, she lived with her second daughter and maintained an independent lifestyle. She would wake up every morning at 5 a.m. and open the curtains as part of her daily routine. She was able to care for herself, and carried out household chores such as cleaning, laundry, and weeding. She also made her own homemade miso. However, after fracturing her leg in a fall, she moved into a nursing home.

Kataoka passed away from natural causes in Yabu City, Hyōgo Prefecture, on February 27, 2008, at the age of 110 years and 332 days.

RECOGNITION

Her age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group on 7 April 2008 and later recognized by LongeviQuest.
