Katherine Coughlin

BIOGRAPHY

Katherine Coughlin was born in Providence, Rhode Island, USA, on 21 December 1903. Her parents were Charles W. McDevitt (1873–1923) and Catherine Elizabeth Atkinson (1882–1950).

She married Charles M. Coughlin (1895–1954) on 10 September 1924, and they remained together for 30 years until his passing in 1954. She was among the first employees of the former jewelry company Trifari, Kressman & Fishel, where she worked from 1939 until her retirement in 1976 at the age of 75.

When asked if she had any advice for young people, Coughlin’s reply was brief and direct: “Behave.”

Katherine Coughlin passed away in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, on 30 January 2015, at the age of 111 years, 40 days.

RECOGNITION

Her age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) on 30 January 2015. The validation was recognized by LongeviQuest.
