Julia Bethea was born in Coy, Alabama, USA, on 25 July 1907, the youngest of seven children. At some point, she got married and had four children. She drove until she was 100 when she took her first ever plane ride.
Sometime in her 50s, she became a Seventh-day Adventist, and in her 90s, she adopted a vegan lifestyle. At 103, she reflected, “I never thought I would live this long, but I’m glad the Lord spared me.” She never took prescription medication but relied on natural remedies, including herbs and garlic. She was highly active, regularly exercising on the treadmill, using dumbbells, and walking both inside her home and along the road. Around that time, she also got a computer and mentioned that she was learning how to look up recipes online.
Bethea passed away in Huntsville, Alabama, USA, on 17 October 2017, at the age of 110 years, 84 days.
Her age was verified by Eli Logan, and validated by LongeviQuest on 2 April 2025.
