BIOGRAPHY

Francisco has lived all his life there. He grew up there with his parents, his wife Luiza Gomes Teixeira and his six children, the eldest of whom is now deceased. He worked as a farmer and master builder and passed on his teachings to some of his family members and, with a lot of effort, honesty and discipline, he built up his assets and raised his family.

Despite his advanced age, Francisco maintains good health. This is largely due to the care he always took of himself: he never smoked, never drank, always valued a good night’s sleep and, on his own initiative, reduced his salt and sugar intake from the age of 45. These attitudes have given him a long and lucid life. He has a good memory, no signs of Alzheimer’s, just occasional lapses considered normal for his age. His sight and hearing are a little impaired, which is also natural as the years go by.

There was a period when he rented the farm, but he soon returned, as he always made it clear that he didn’t want to leave. His wish was to live and die on the land where he was born. His son, Lupécio, who had lived in São Paulo for many years, responded to his father’s request and returned to Rio Grande do Norte to look after him. Francisco also expressed the wish for Lupécio to acquire the brothers’ land, so that he could be even closer.

Francisco Dionízio is currently being cared for by Lupécio and his wife, who came from São Paulo exclusively to look after him. To do this, they had to give up many things and began to manage their commitments from a distance, all to ensure that Francisco remained in his hometown.

Jardim de Angicos, as well as being his hometown, has great historical importance: it was the birthplace of Alzira Soriano, the first woman to become mayor in Latin America. Francisco’s mother had a strong friendship with Alzira and, at the time of the “colonels”, this relationship was one of great prestige. This connection with historical figures and pride in his roots reinforces Francisco’s deep attachment to his place of origin.
