Otoji Hasegawa (Japanese: 長谷川乙次) is a Japanese-born Brazilian supercentenarian who is currently one of the oldest living Japanese-born emigrants in the world.
BIOGRAPHY
Otoji Hasegawa was born in Kasai-cho, Hamana-gun (now part of Hamamatsu City), Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, on 3 December 1915 to parents Jisaburo and Katsu Hasegawa. On 28 March 1935, at the age of 19, he departed Kobe with his older brother, Takaji, aboard the passenger-cargo ship Manila Maru. On 23 May 1935, the ship arrived in Santos, from which Otoji was assigned to farm on land situated along the Mogiana railway within the interior of São Paulo state.
On 21 July 1942, he married Mitsuko Shiraishi (11 October 1920 – deceased) in Fernão, São Paulo. His wife was also an immigrant, having come from Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. From this marriage, five children were born, all in Vera Cruz, São Paulo.
In December 2025, he turned 110 years old.
