Fernande Marie Marguerite Revel was a French supercentenarian who was the second-oldest living person in the region of Pays de la Loire. Her age has been validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) and the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO), and recognised by LongeviQuest.

BIOGRAPHY

Revel was born in Le Château-d’Almenêches, Orne, Normandy, France, on 2 September 1898 as the eldest of three children born into a farming family. She never married and had no children, remaining and working at her parents’ house until 1945.

Revel moved to Sarthe department and continued to work in the agriculture industry, occasionally doing jobs for neighbouring farmers. She lived independently until the age of 93, when she moved into a nearby retirement facility.

On her 110th birthday, Revel had no close relatives, so she celebrated with a few friends and nursing home staff. She was also sent a congratulatory letter from the Prime Minister’s office, and was reported to still be mentally sharp, elegant, and strong-willed.

Revel died in Allonnes, Sarthe, Pays de la Loire, France, on 12 October 2008 at the age of 110 years, 40 days.

RECOGNITION

At the time of her death, Revel was the region of Pays de la Loire’s second-oldest known resident after Marie-Thérèse Bardet (1898 – 2012).

Revel’s age was verified by Luc Le Lay and Martin Miet (GRG) and Cyril Depoudent (ESO) of Les Grands Centenaires Français, and was validated by each organisation on 18 June 2011 and 18 August 2022 respectively.
