Emma Scott (née Cusic) was an American supercentenarian.
Emma Scott was born in Arcola, Mississippi, USA, on 25 March 1903. She was the eleventh child in her family, which included twelve or possibly thirteen children. In 1959, Scott moved to Detroit, Michigan, after recognizing better employment opportunities there. She worked in a convalescent home as well as in a meatpacking plant. Her hobbies included gardening and caring for flowers.
In her youth, she met and married her husband, Charlie Scott, who died of cancer in the 1960s. Scott was described as a devout Baptist who knew the Bible thoroughly and lived by its teachings.
On 24 April 2013, at the age of 110, Scott was honored by the Macomb Township Board of Trustees, which passed a resolution recognizing her life and achievements and proclaiming 27 April as Emma Cusic Scott Day in Macomb Township. She was also honored on 27 April by New Mt. Hermon Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit as part of the celebration of the church’s anniversary.
At the time, she was living with her daughter, Willie May Smith, who was 94 years old. Although she was no longer able to walk, she could still speak and retained some hearing and vision; however, she was unable to fully understand or respond to interview questions.
Emma Scott passed away in Macomb Township, Michigan, on 22 September 2013, at the age of 110 years, 181 days.
Her age has not been validated.
At the time of her passing, her daughter, Willie May Smith, was 94 years old, making her daughter one of the world’s oldest individuals with a living parent.
