BIOGRAPHY

Hutchinson was born in Tickhill, South Yorkshire, England, on 7 July 1880 (claimed 1878). She attended school until the age of 12 and then joined the workforce as a linen maid for a local lord. Eventually, she got married and had children.

By the time she turned 110, her only surviving daughter, Winifred Skillbeck, was 73. At that time, she was also a great-great-grandmother. In her free time, she enjoyed watching television and listening to music.

Eliza Hutchinson passed away in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, on 30 July 1990, at the age of 110 years, 23 days.

RECOGNITION

In July 1990, she celebrated her 110th birthday, becoming the first documented supercentenarian in the state of Queensland. She held the title of the state’s longevity record holder until 10 March 1995, when Ada Stockdale surpassed her final age.

At the time of her passing, she was the second-oldest living person in Australia, after Mary Hurley, who was two months her senior.

Her age was verified by Wayne Morris, Jack Knight, and Dr. Andrew Holmes, and validated by the ESO on 7 September 2024.
