Nelson was born as Blanche Adams in North Carolina’s capital city of Raleigh as the daughter of Ralph and Anna Adams. In 1927, she married Charles L. Nelson and the couple relocated to Buffalo, New York.
Shortly after their arrival in the city, Nelson joined Lincoln Memorial United Methodist Church, of which she would be a lifelong member. She attended Sunday school classes for adults, as well as Bible study in the evenings. She shared her knowledge of the Bible with many other members.
Nelson was also a member of several other local Christian organisations, with one renaming its board after her in honour of her devotion. She was fond of children, despite not having any of her own, and enjoyed helping them with crafts and puzzles. She also provided generous financial aid to mothers who struggled to afford camping trips for their children. She was widowed in the late 1990s.
Nelson died in a Buffalo assisted living facility on 14 April 2008 at the age of 110 years, 52 days. She was survived by a brother, Roy Adams.
Nelson claimed birth in 1905 and a final age of 103; however, research conducted by Jimmy Lindberg and Stefan Maglov has proven that she was seven years older than claimed, being born in 1898 and reaching a final age of 110.
Nelson’s age was validated by LongeviQuest on 7 June 2024.
