Anna Hoffarth was born in Dresden, North Dakota, on 17 August 1908, to parents Albert Schill (1868–1936) and Genevefa Koehmstedt (1881–1973). Her father was born in Canada. She had at least nine siblings: Mary (1898–1898), Lawrence (1899–1899), Pauline Dahl (1900–1996), Leo (1903–1987), Richard (1906–1913), Cathrine Boesl (1911–1991), Richard Valentine (1914–2003), Henry (1916–1917), Lucille Dumas (1921–2009). She grew up in the Mt. Carmel area, where she worked for various farm families and as a cook in the community. She often said that one of the happiest moments of her life was making her First Communion.
On 23 June 1931, she married Edmund Hoffarth in Mt. Carmel, North Dakota. After their marriage, they settled in West Hope Township, where they raised their family. The couple had six children: Theodore, Leona Platz, Leslie, Rita Beauchamp (1933–1988), Norman, and Patrick. Her husband passed away on 17 May 1966, aged 64.
On 4 February 1963, the couple moved to Langdon. There, she cared for her mother and other elderly individuals while also working at the St. Alphonsus School cafeteria. She found joy in quilting, crocheting, and embroidery, hobbies that reflected her creativity and skill.
Anna Hoffarth passed away at the Maple Manor Care Center in Langdon, North Dakota, on 9 November 2018, at the age of 110 years, 84 days. She was survived by three of her children (Theodore, Leona, Leslie), as well as 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.
